What Are Conflict Zone Minerals?

This term refers to minerals extracted from certain conflict areas whose trade contributes to human rights violations and exploitation of people in the country where they are mined. These resources do not contribute to the country’s wealth nor the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants. Instead, they enrich mafias, fuel armed conflicts, violent autocracies, and increase instability in these areas.

The trade of minerals from these places exacerbates and perpetuates armed conflicts, funds the weapons used against civilians, and contributes to ongoing human rights abuses in these zones where inequality and poverty grow.

According to the UN, since 1995, three out of four conflicts in Africa have been financed by resources extracted in these conflict zones.

Dytas Menstrual Cups Do Not Contain Minerals From Conflict Zones

Dytas is committed to the principles of sustainable development and conducts its activities with integrity and respect for applicable law. Compliance with social and ethical standards, respect for laws, and environmental responsibility are established in our Code of Conduct. We comply with it strictly.

We share the concern about sourcing raw materials that contain “conflict minerals” as defined in Section 1502(e)(4) of H.R. 4173, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. This is also emphasized by the European Commission, the Spanish Government, the UN, and other entities and bodies.

Therefore, for ethical reasons and to avoid contributing to increased inequality, disrespect for human life, and instability in these areas, the raw materials used to manufacture our Dytas menstrual cup do not use minerals from mines located in any of the following conflict zones:

⦁ Democratic Republic of Congo
⦁ Angola
⦁ Burundi
⦁ Central African Republic
⦁ Republic of Congo
⦁ Rwanda, South Sudan
⦁ Tanzania
⦁ Uganda
⦁ Zambia
